Dear EHT Families and Staff,
As we welcome the month of October, I want to take a moment to reflect on the important work that has taken place across the Egg Harbor Township School District since the beginning of the school year.
As a Professional Learning Community, we are committed to one shared purpose: improving student achievement and ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed. Our Professional Learning Teams are at the heart of this work. They collaborate, examine student learning and data, reflect on instruction, and continually ask ourselves, What can we do want our students learn? How do we know if they learned it? What do we do when they do not learn it ? and What do we do if they have already learned it?
September was about Embracing our students.
We began the year by focusing on one important lesson plan—not a lesson plan found in a curriculum guide, but the lesson plan of building relationships, establishing trust, and creating a sense of belonging. Our teachers and classroom teams spent time getting to know their students, understanding their strengths and needs, and creating classrooms where students feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.
We also placed an intentional focus on executive function skills—helping our students develop the organization, planning, time management, self-regulation, and problem-solving skills they need to become successful, independent learners.
Now, as we enter October, our classroom teams are ready to Engage our students in meaningful and amazing learning opportunities.
October is filled with opportunities to learn, grow, and build awareness throughout our schools. We will recognize Fire Prevention Month, participate in Red Ribbon Week, continue our efforts surrounding bullying prevention and kindness, and celebrate National Principals Month as we recognize the dedicated school leaders who support our students, staff, and families each day. We will also continue to emphasize the importance of character, responsibility, respect, and making positive choices. These observances are more than calendar events. They provide opportunities for conversations, reflection, learning, and connections that extend beyond the classroom.
Our commitment is to Embrace, Engage, and Educate every student, every day.
We also want our families to know that we are here to support you and your child. If you have questions about grading, courses, curriculum, instruction, student support, or your child's educational experience, please reach out to your child's teacher or school administration. Communication between home and school is an important part of student success, and we welcome your questions and partnership.
