EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – Dr. Joyanne D. Miller Elementary School will hold their A.S.P.I.R.E. Lights On Afterschool Open House from 4 – 6 pm, Thursday, Oct. 25, at the school located at 2 Alder Avenue in Egg Harbor Township

A.S.P.I.R.E. (After School Program for Instruction, Recreation and Enrichment) provides a comprehensive after school program with a STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art and Math) theme. A.S.P.I.R.E. delivers academic enrichment, homework help from certified teachers, health, nutrition and fitness activities, culture and the arts, positive youth development activities, as well as educational field trips, and transportation home to approximately 250 Dr. Joyanne D. Miller Elementary School children.

Initially funded in 2017 through a $500,000 per year, five-year grant from the New Jersey Department of Education through its 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) Program, A.S.P.I.R.E. is in place to assist students in attaining the skills necessary to meet New Jersey’s Core Curriculum Content Standards by providing participating students with academic enrichment opportunities that complement the regular school day.

The Lights On Afterschool Open House at Miller, one of approximately 8,000 nationwide celebrations of afterschool programs organized by the Afterschool Alliance, will allow family members of student participants to see the program in action, and follow the students through their enrichment sessions. Lights On Afterschool is planned annually to bring attention to the benefits of afterschool programs, including inspiring children to learn, keeping them safe in the hours when juvenile crime peaks, and providing relief for working families.
