Philosophy and Objectives: This
class is designed around a system to encourage, motivate, and cultivate keyboard
skills and overall musicianship. Through this course, students are introduced
to the overall structure of the piano, elements and principles of music theory,
musical literacy, a variety of composers, and musical genres. Students are provided with the opportunity to
practice repertoire individually, receive private lessons with the instructor,
and perform this repertoire for their family and peers. Objectives include:
· Hand position
· Finger independence
· Literacy
· Rhythm
· Musical terminology/symbols
· Musical expression/style
