MISSION STATEMENT

The Human Relations Committee of the Egg Harbor Township School District recognizes that our schools are a microcosm of our community at large. The mission of the Human Relations Committee is to integrate equity and diversity into all aspects of The Egg Harbor Township School District mission and culture in order to provide the best quality education to our diverse student body while fostering lasting relationships with families and the community.

In order to support the efforts of our school and our community, our mission is to work together to:

1.         Build a foundation and relationship of mutual respect and trust within our school and community.

2.       Understand and appreciate the similarities and differences that exist within our schools and our community.

3.        Foster lines of communication which will promote a positive school/community climate.

4.       Serve as role models to the students, schools and community.

5.       Break down and decrease stereotyping and to increase cultural awareness and sensitivity.

6.        Examine and advise on developing issues involving gender, race, ethnicity, economic and/or physical status.

 

BUILDING & DISTRICT LEVEL OBJECTIVES

Ø  Building Level Objectives:

 

·         Develop programs, which enhance positive school/community climate, and the cultural diversity that exists within the school and community.

·         Integrating Multicultural Competency across the curriculum and into all aspects of children's lives through content areas.

·         Recognizes and celebrate culturally diverse traditions of students represented within our schools and community.

Ø  District Level Objectives:

Ø   

·         At the district level, develop programs which enhance positive school/community relations and the cultural diversity that exists within the school and community.

·         Provide training for staff members on strategies and best practices when working with multi-cultural student population.

 

·         For the 2011-2012 school year, the committee will develop special projects that focus on the above goals.  These projects will commence in the fall on 2011 and be accomplished by spring (May/June) 2012.

 

Ø  Examples of District Committee Projects:

 

·         Programs which provide information and activities for students, parents and staff related to parenting (i.e. adolescence-early childhood, transition programs, and mutual respect). Presentations by district staff and guest speakers.

·         Community-wide multicultural parade/concert/picnic/flea market cultural fair with speakers on issues of diversity, equity and gender.

 

·         Information/communication/round table sessions related to the budget, educational initiatives and other topics.
