Procedures for Circulation of Library Materials

Books

Students in Kindergarten and First Grade may borrow one hard back book. Kindergartener’s will choose their book from the Kindergarten Corner until about mid-year. Then the media specialist will teach them how to use shelf-markers and they may choose a book from the Easy Fiction or Nonfiction sections of the Library Media Center. First graders may choose a book from either the Fiction or Nonfiction sections of the Library Media Center. If a student forgets his/her book, they may choose a soft or paperback book one time. Thus, it is possible that a Kindergarten or First Grade student may have two books out at one time.

Teachers may borrow as many books and materials as they need to support their lessons. There is no limit on the amount of items they may borrow.

The circulation period is two weeks, renewed as often as needed unless there is a waiting list for the material. For special class projects, students may be permitted to check out more books due back as soon as the project is completed.

OVERDUE NOTICES

Overdue notices will be sent home regularly. Any student who has met their circulation limit or has overdue materials will be banned from obtaining additional materials from the Library Media Center until the material is either returned or paid for.

FEES AND FINES

Students will not be charged fines for overdue books. Students will be held accountable for lost or damaged books, and will be required to replace the book or pay for the book before getting their final report card according to school policy.
