Read Across America - February 28 - March 2, 2012

Celebrate the 106th Birthday of Children's Author and Illustrator Dr. Seuss with Slaybaugh Primary School!

Coming March 2, 2011 -- Dr. Seuss's 107th birthday! Initially created as a one-day event to celebrate reading on Dr. Seuss' birthday, NEA's Read Across America has grown into a nationwide initiative that promotes reading every day of the year. Here at Slaybaugh Primary School we will have a reading celebration during the week of February 27-March 2, 2011. Visit the official NEA Read Across America Website and stay tuned for announcements, activities, and ideas for joining the biggest birthday bash of 2011.

We have many activities planned, including:

The Author/Illustrator team Peter Maloney and Felicia Zekauskas will come present to the children at Slaybaugh Primary School on Thursday, March 1, 2011. Their books will be available at a nice discount, and of course Peter and Felicia will autograph them.

Guest Readers - During our Read Across America celebration we will have guest readers from Fernwood Avenue Middle School National Junior Honor Society visit all of our classrooms on Tuesday, February 28, 2011. It is important to connect a love and joy for reading to the need for it in your everyday life.

Ready, Set, Read Night will take place on Tuesday evening at the Slaybaugh Primary School. The theme is luau, so be sure to come decked out in your Hawaiian best!

We will have a week of dress up days: Tuesday - Wear your Hawaiian best; Wednesday - Wacky Wednesday; Thursday - Pajama Day; Friday - Red, White & Black Day
