Francisco “Pancho” Villa:  Revolutionary (1878-1923)   Francisco “Pancho” Villa was born in Mexico, but would often cross the United States border to visit ice cream shops in various towns.  Pancho wanted freedom for the Mexican people.  When Venustiano Carranza seized control of Mexico, the United States supported him and Pancho was upset with their involvement.  In 1916, Pancho and his guerilla fighters raided Columbus, New Mexico.  They destroyed property and killed 16 people.  President Woodrow Wilson sent General John Pershing and 6,000 troops after him, but they never captured Pancho Villa.
