Luis Alvarez: Physicist (1911-1988) Luis Alvarez was born in San Francisco. Luis loved science, but he didnt like boring teachers. He earned bachelor, master, and doctoral degrees in physics at the University of Chicago. While teaching at eh University of Berkeley, Luis made several scientific breakthroughs and earned 22 invention patents! He also worked on the Manhattan Project for the United States Military. In 1968, Luis won the Nobel Prize for physics.
