Celia Cruz: Queen of Salsa (1925-2003) Celia Cruz was born in Havana, Cuba. When a relative entered her in a radio talent contest, Celias life changed because she won! She pursued a music degree at Havana Conservatory. Celias wild performances launched her salsa-singing career. She recorded more that 70 albums, earned more that 12 Grammy nominations, and won two Grammy Awards. Celia received a star on Hollywoods Walk of Fame, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Smithsonian Institution, and an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
